The sport was brought to Canada and other countries with winter climates, by Scottish emigrants and was one of the first sports that was popular with women and girls. Curling stones are still made in Ayrshire, Scotland and that company still provides the curling stones for the Winter Olympics. The portable curling setup is meant to serve as an introduction to the sport, as most people do not normally have the opportunity to try actual Curling with stones on ice.”
